Temporary closure of our South St Cafe

Dear Customers,

We are very sorry we have had to close our café for the next two weeks due to water damage, resulting in considerable repairs.

After a building inspection we have been advised to replace the ceiling that was soaked from the water leak from upstairs and we are checking our electrical system to ensure it is completely safe.

We are all working hard to reopen again as soon as possible, so please do keep checking in to see how we are doing.

In the meantime please do continue to support our cause - go along our lovely Mill Street Café where will give you a lovely Giraffe welcome.

Zuppa winner announced at Perth Winter Fest

Zuppa, The Great Perthshire Soup Competition, held its finale in Perth City Centre last Sunday as part of the Great Perth Feast.

Our 8 finalist soups were on offer to passers-by who were then asked to vote for their favourite recipe. The winning soup was Curried Potato and Apple which was submitted by Lorna Becher from Perth.

First prize was a fantastic £250 Perth Gift Card which was kindly donated to the competition by Perth City Centre.

Congratulations Lorna!

Santa runners to raise money for new kitchen

Weʼre raising £500 to help refurbish the training kitchen in our South St Cafe.

Three fantastic staff members in Giraffe are raising money for our great local cause. Giraffe aims to support individuals with barriers to employment by providing structured training, work experience and social support.

Our training kitchen in South Street is desperately in need of an upgrade so that we can train more people and run more effectively as a cafe.

Sponsor Sarah (Operations Manager), Steven (Kitchen Manager) and Laura (Cafe Supervisor) as they run Perth's Santa Run, 2017, and help us achieve our target of just £500 towards our much needed renovation.

Giraffe Trading CIC joins national Volunteers Week Scotland

Giraffe Trading CIC joins national Volunteers Week Scotland celebration to highlight huge contribution made by volunteers in Perthshire

Giraffe Trading CIC is teaming up with thousands of charities and voluntary organisations across Scotland in a celebration of the vital contribution made by volunteers.

From 1-7 June 2017, Volunteers’ Week Scotland will see a huge range of events take place in communities all over the country, from small awards ceremonies to large celebratory gatherings.

Volunteers are vital to the strength and vitality of Scottish society, with their work valued at £2.6 billion every year. Recent research found that Scotland’s young people are particularly engaged, with participation now at 52% – nearly double the adult figure of 27%.

With so many people volunteering, there are a huge range of achievements to celebrate. Whether working to improve the local environment, spending time with people who need help, or providing other kinds of essential services and support, the efforts made by volunteers make an invaluable difference to the lives of people and communities everywhere.

As well as celebrating the work of existing volunteers, Volunteers’ Week Scotland offers a new opportunity for voluntary organisations to promote the benefits that volunteering can bring. The week can also help highlight how people can access opportunities and overcome any barriers they might be facing.

Chief Executive of Volunteer Scotland, George Thomson said,’
In a post truth world there is one thing we can trust. That people volunteering in Scotland are uplifting. They are creating community solidarity and friendship. Volunteers Week is a good time to celebrate their honesty and humanity.

In a world which is becoming very uncertain there is one certainty that will not change, that people in Scotland giving time within their communities is uplifting by building friendship and solidarity.  Volunteers Week is a good time to celebrate this.

To volunteer, call Shona on 01738 449227 for a friendly chat, or email volunteer@checkin-giraffe.uk for more information.

A huge thanks to all our staff, volunteers and jobseekers for all their help - we couldn't do it without them!
